Privacy Policy for Grayscale

Introduction
This Privacy Policy describes how grayscale (“we”, “our”, or “the app”) handles your information. We are committed to protecting your privacy.
Grayscale stores most data locally on your device. For the global leaderboard feature, some anonymized data is synced to the cloud.
Data Stored Locally
- Usage Statistics: Time spent in grayscale mode, session history, streaks, achievements
- Preferences: App settings and configuration
- Notifications: Daily reminder notifications are scheduled locally on your device (no data is sent externally)
Data Synced to Cloud (for Leaderboard)
- Anonymous User ID: A randomly generated identifier (not linked to your identity)
- Display Name: The username you choose, which is publicly linked to your usage statistics
- Leaderboard Stats: Grayscale usage time, streak, level, and achievements (linked to your Display Name)
All data is used solely to provide app functionality:
- Track your grayscale usage and progress
- Display achievements and milestones
- Global Leaderboard: We display your chosen Display Name alongside your tracked grayscale minutes and streaks. This allows you to compete with other users. By setting a Display Name, you consent to this public display of your usage data.
Data Sharing
We do NOT share, sell, or transmit your personal data to any third parties. Leaderboard data (display name and stats) is visible to other app users but is not linked to your real identity.
Third-Party Services
Grayscale uses:
- Firebase (Google): Cloud database for leaderboard feature and anonymous authentication
- DiceBear (dicebear.com): Generates avatar images based on your display name
- Expo: Development framework and local notifications (no personal data sent)
- AsyncStorage: Local device storage for app preferences
We do not use analytics, advertising, or tracking services.
Children’s Privacy
Grayscale does not knowingly collect information from children under 13. The app is safe for all ages.
Your Rights
You can delete all app data at any time by:
- Uninstalling the app from your device
- Using your device’s app settings to clear app data
Note: Uninstalling the app will remove your leaderboard presence. Your anonymous data on Firebase will be automatically cleaned up.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy. Changes will be posted within the app with an updated “Last updated” date.
